What You Pay for an International Call
Four things set the price of a call on a phone card.
- Rate a minute. This is the price in the table. It is different for each country and each card.
- Connection fee. Some cards add a fee to each call, for example 49c. The cards in the table have no connection fee.
- Billing block. Each card rounds a call up to a block of 1, 2, 3 or 4 minutes. On Super Deal, which bills calls to the UK in 3 minute blocks, a 4 minute call is charged as 6 minutes.
- Landline or mobile. A UK landline costs 3.2c a minute and a UK mobile costs 9.8c on the cheapest cards with no fee.
A 10 minute call to a UK landline costs 38.4c on Super Deal, the cheapest card for that call. The rates are for the local access numbers in 54 Australian cities. The 1300 access number works anywhere in Australia but adds 5c a minute.
Pay Less on Each Call
- Short calls: choose a card with no connection fee and small billing blocks.
- Long calls: a card with a connection fee and a lower rate can cost less. Compare both on the country’s rate page.
- Calls to more than one country: one card’s credit works for every country it calls. Check whether one card covers your list.
- Credit life: credit lasts 6 months from your first call or your last recharge. A recharge brings back credit that has expired.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is the charge for international calls from Australia?

How much per minute are international calls?
With no connection fee, a landline costs 1.9c a minute in the USA, 3.2c in the UK, 2.8c in India and 13.3c in the Philippines. Find every other country in the table on this page.
How much does a 1 minute international call cost?
Many cards bill in blocks of 2, 3 or 4 minutes, so a 1 minute call is charged as a full block. The cheapest 1 minute call to a UK landline is 4.4c on Chats, to India 8c and to the USA 2.4c.
Will I be charged if I call an international number?
Yes. The person who makes the call pays the international rate. The person who answers in the other country usually pays nothing, unless they answer while roaming outside their own country.
Will I get charged for calling someone in Australia from overseas?
Yes. Your phone company in the country you call from charges its own international rate. Some of our cards have access numbers in the USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and South Africa, which can cost less when you travel.
Why do calls to mobiles cost more than calls to landlines?
Phone networks in many countries charge more to connect a call to a mobile, and the card rate passes that on. A UK landline costs 3.2c a minute and a UK mobile costs 9.8c on the cheapest cards with no fee.
